Your Stomach - What It Represents & What It Can Be Trying To Tell You

The consciousness issues associated with parts of the body typically will derive from the use of symbolism from language as well as the western and eastern medicine concepts.

Before reading about the beliefs and issues The Stomach represents symbolically in the mind, it would be beneficial to get a general sense of what is BodyMind Consciousness?

Body Mind Consciousness
Our body and mind, like our universe is ONE. It contains all aspects of beliefs within itself. However, we live in a world of duality. Our brain makes the first breakdown into duality. After all, it is composed of two halves; The right and the left. As we navigate through life, we learn and grow, and our mind adopt and lean towards certain beliefs and perceptions that have served us well. Whatever beliefs our mind adopt and think, it will be reflected in the anatomy of the body.

When we feel pain or discomfort in our body, it is our body and mind trying to get us to pay attention to our point of view, as the balance may have tipped. We may have lost sight to the other side of the spectrum. It is our body’s way of telling us to re-examine the environment around us, and how our beliefs and expectations may be hindering the optimal functioning of our health. It wants us to open our minds and probe our beliefs within and see the other side of things; reminding us we are one and need to recognize the other spectrum.

As Dr. John DeMartini says “Be open minded enough and wise enough and probe and look in a balanced way, because a balanced mind leads to a balanced physiology and society. Our life is not a one sided world. It has two sides. The other pole is there to re-balance you and is a feedback mechanism to help you set realistic expectations and see what is true.”

My goal is to provide you with some information about what The Stomach represents, and how it can affect your well being. The information I share with you is what I have learned through my studies with IBA Global Healing and the BodyTalk community. It is meant to compliment the practice of Western medicine and serve as an alternative way to look at what may be causing your stomach issues. My hope is it will increase your awareness in noticing what your stomach is trying to tell you the next time it acts up, and for you to check in with your mind to see if it may be related to something that is going on in your life that may be influencing the discomfort.  As many alternative/energetic consciousness believers believe, by changing your thoughts, you could restore balance in your mind and body, accelerating the healing process.

THE STOMACH

The Function
It receives, digests, processes, transports and stores food and drink. It provides a sense of comfort, nourishment and energy to the other parts of the body. From an Eastern perspective, it is the doorkeeper, it is responsible for allowing new food of thought to enter the mind ensuring we are properly nourished while not being overly naïve, as we grow and assimilate to our lives. It is also tied to the emotion of worry.

Key issues/beliefs that stem from the stomach or is reflected in the stomach, affecting the function of the Stomach

  • Rejection/Intolerance
  • Worry/Overthinking
  • Digestion of life, or digestion of (________).

What to do, if you have been experiencing stomach pains lately, if you find yourself over or under eating, and/or if you find yourself encountering situations where something makes your stomach churn, where you feel sick to your stomach or get butterflies in your stomach.

  • Take time to notice your environment.
  • Reflect on what is going on, what belief of yours is being challenged? How does your belief affect the functioning of your stomach?
  • Look at the other side of the issue or from the other perspective.
  • Write down all the positives and negatives of the other perspective. Find that balance to neutralize your thought. You will gain more clarity of your own issue and the beliefs you hold, opening a healing space for your stomach.
  • Creating an affirmation statement or mantra related to the issue/belief of the Stomach that's applicable to you, i.e. Worry - I free my body and mind of worry.

By changing what’s going on in your mind, it could help heal your stomach and your eating habits, helping you digest and assimilate what’s going on in your life.

An Example:
You have recently been let go from your job and you have just come out of another relationship. You are worried that you are unable to find a new job soon enough to pay for your bills, that you’ll never find the love of your life, and how others may view you. You are swallowing a lot of worry and pain that does not serve you in life and your stomach is revolting. Worry is good in that it makes us stop and think. Too much worry can be detrimental.

What are the consequences if you were to curb your worry or to accept what happened? Will it make you less employable or less dateable? The answer is probably not. By worrying less, it will instead make you seem more in control and confident of your surroundings, and be more pleasant when you are networking or going to your next job interview and/or on your next date.

Yes, that’s true! The emotion(s) associated with the body influences our lives and give us clues of the mental cause(s) of how disease can be developed.  It ‘s so wonderful to know that more and more people are looking to understand health from a holistic perspective. It's an exciting time!

Great post! Always fascinating to hear where we hold different types of emotions in our body. I heard an interview with Johannes Fisslinger (founder of the META-Health University) talking about how within each body part and organ, a different type of emotion and problem can be found in the different layers that make up that body part/organ. Would be great to read more posts from you on the mind-body connection and what emotions are effecting different parts of our bodies.
