I've been going nuts with cooking squash, even though my kids don't like it. I wish we had grown some but all our veggies suffered this summer, too cool.

I grew a lot of squash this summer.  There are two types, butternut and green hubbard.  I wasn't sure if they were mature because the butternut didn't seem ripe.  Tonight I cooked up one of the green hubbard and it was delicious.  It feels so good to have home grown food on the table.

Please try www.ecosafezerowaste.com .  Another community that is working hard toward a greener space is the ski resort of Whistler Mountain (B.C.)  www.sustainabilitypartners.com.  Whistler was the site of the 2010 Winter Olympics and really worked hard for zero waste.

Can you send me a link, Catherine?  I'll look into this.  Glad you liked the post!!

I was so impressed When I found  out about Roz Savage through your post on Owning PInk, Monica.  What about promoting the idea of compostable garbage bags?  I"m a chronic composter myself!  A local entrepreneur from the Sechelt First Nation has started a major composting business and will be salvaging all the commercial waste for the operation!  They will be growing vegetables and teaching gardening skills to the youth.

I'd love some suggestions from you gals. I'm working on a post to show how businesses and communities can make small changes towards a greener world. An example would be that one of the elementary schools in this area installed solar panels OVER the school parking lot, powering the school while they shade the cars. BRILLANT.  If you have seen anything like this in your area (not something done on a national level) please let me know and I'll add it to the post.  Hope everything is turning red, orange and yellow!!!  Monica

Don't know about you ladies but I cringe every time a new "disposable" product comes out.  Here is a great link to help you eliminate this waste in your life and GO GREEN!

It's definately been a strange growing season. I am surprised it didn't get very warm where you're at Monica! I hope the extra water helps. It just goes to show how challenging it can be to grow our own veggies!

My tomato plants took off but the actual tomatoes don't look so great.  They're small and hard, even when ripe.  I don't think it ever got warm enough here and I may not have been watering them enough. I've gone to twice a day to see if that helps.

Great to see you all again!

Hello friends,First of all, let me apologize for the long time I have disappeared out of sight. I think I got a little burned out and needed some time to regroup. The last year I have done just that. I have focused on my family, I have learned all I could about the publishing business, and I have written another novel which I have decided to publish on my own this time, under my new incarnation as publisher of Crossroads Books.I have other projects I am nursing at the moment, but there are only…See More
