Thank you for that reminder Heather. Yes, it can be a tough time for mothers- 2 weeks of having the kids away from school, plus all the other emotional stuff that tends to accompany the holidays. But I hear you. I had the most wonderful holiday with Siena this year- I think it's the age. 5 is just so blissful! Magic and fairies and flower petals and princesses and painting and big big dreams. May we all revel in the gratitude of the joys of what our children bring to our lives, while still feeling free to express the challenges from a place of authenticity.

As I continue to celebrate the holidays, I am struck at how present and engaged I am compared to years past.  I don't know how or why the heaviness of motherhood was lifted from me, but it was. The Christmas lights are twinkling brighter, my kids' laughter is contagious and the food tastes better.  I feel grateful and at peace.  After many, many years...I am me again.

My thoughts are with all the mothers who struggle with PPD-as the holidays can be particularly painful.  May your dark clouds soon part.

Odd Girl Out is an amazing book. I recommend it to every pre-teen girl and mom work with. Can we get her to do a post????

Awesome! I just followed her on Twitter and she tweeted back! What a lovely program. And how great to have a scholarship for it! Great idea.

I know, L! I love hearing about programs such as this one. I've sent it to everyone I know who have, or work with, children who have self-esteem issues. I'm now noodling a way to raise money for at least one scholarship!

I used to try and help my children solve their conflicts because I was the one being driven crazy by the conflict...in the end, I let them sort it out and they did, soon after I would've intervened.
Best thing I taught them was when someone says stop (doing what ever they might be doing to them), you stop and respect their space. :-)
