Hello Pinkies! Well, as you may know I've been house-hunting. I came across what looked like an amazing deal. A drive by the Berkeley rental for less than 50% the market rate seemed fishy. It was a scam, removed by craigslist.org within hours!

Here's a link to more info. Know what the scams are to protect you and the ones you love!

I found this great article (okay I didn't find it, it was emailed to me) from one of my favorite craft blogs. "How to eat on a rice and beans budget"

Hello Pinkies! I'm so loving this group! Thought you all might be interested in a blog I write for my sister's law firm, http://vaconsumernews.com. It's all tips on savings, recalls and scams to look out for. I know it says Virginia, but tips on checking hospital bills, dollar store savings and much more apply to us all.

I started the blog to help my sister's bankruptcy clients save money. AND after 2 years of unemployment, I'd started looking for every way possible to save. Gotta tell you, even the small tips (like buy Ziplocks and garbage bags from the dollar store) saved me money then and continue to help me meet both ends of my budget now that I have a job.

Hope you enjoy!

I saw this on Native Remedies, thought some of you might enjoy it.
A natural cooling and nurturing face mask for those hot summer days!

Mix 4 tbsp of mashed ripe papaya pulp,
½ tsp of honey
a couple of drops of lemon juice.
Apply on face and leave for 10 minutes.
Rinse off with cold tap water.

Hi my frugal friends! When I read the post about freezing things I just wanted to add one more thing comment. I have a list posted on the outside of my freezer. It is dated the food I put in is written down. then when I use it I cross it off the list. This has really helped me keep on top of keeping my items rotated (use older first) and also help me build meals around what I have so when I go to the discount grocery store I am able to create a list for what I need fresh and save on gas(I live way up in the redwoods and need to drive 50 miles to get to a discount groc store)
Also years ago off the Frugal Gourmet Cooking Show he was talking about cooking for the week or in bulk. I was a full time working mom with a husband who never did a thing..two little kids. I then started planning the meals and taking out the cuisinart and cooking up everything at once. If you chop everything and store it properly labled for what meal it makes it so easy and then at the last minute you don't realize you need an onion! I used to get up at 5 am on Sun and just cook all day. It saved me so much money and time. Every night we had a great meal and everyone was healthy and happy.
Because I live alone now of course things have chaneged. Now with bread being almost $5.00 a loaf for the good stuff instead of opening it up and then it goes bad I take two slives at a time and stick then in freezer that way I am not having stale bread. You can do this with all kinds of food...meatloaf,quish, goodies etc.
Happy savings to all!

Hello, Pinkies.

Thank you for this group :) I have always been savvy when shopping, but now it is turned up a notch- being a single mom and having to pay debts off :)
I have found this website where you ca swap your skills: www.swapaskill.com

It sounds great to just help each other with what we do best. It is not always about money, is it:)

To remove white rings on wood furniture: Make a paste using 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of water. Rub the spot in a circular motion until the mark disappears. You can also rub a dab of car paste wax (buff when dry) or petroleum jelly (leave on overnight & rub off).

My lovely neighbor brought a to go box filled with hot food for me to my house and left it on my antique mahogany table. I didn't see it for a few hours and it left a white mark the size of a dinner plate. I tried a combination of the baking soda first and then the petroleum jelly. It was AMAZING! I saved my dining room table for about $3.00.
